Our Quality

There is more to Rose & Heather than fine furniture. While we keep abreast of the latest technology, some aspects of our service could be described as being extremely old fashioned.

Our cabinet-makers have a passion for their work that expresses itself in their craft, some having been with the company for decades. Our sales staff too, are aware of the commitment involved in choosing a single piece to a complete room setting and are more than willing to accommodate individual needs wherever necessary. It is this service and passion, along with the top quality product, that brings customers back time and again.

Enduring Style

We are conscious of the fact that our furniture has to fit into a myriad of interiors and rise above constantly changing lifestyles. We achieve this by adhering to classic design elements and as far as possible staying away from any treatment that might date pieces prematurely. Conversely, we are not afraid of giving our furniture a sleek contemporary look, but do so in a slightly more restrained manner. We do not simply reproduce past styles or decorative detail, rather, we adapt classic elements and construction techniques to achieve a uniquely Rose & Heather look.

Once a range of furniture is established it remains enduring and pieces may be added at any time, even to customers own specifications if required. So, like that good suit, our furniture endures the test of time while things around it change. The house may change, the room may change frequently but our furniture will always remain that faithful focal point.

Each item is lovingly made in our workshop and carries with it a Rose & Heather certificate of authentication that details the age and location of the Kauri used in any particular piece.

Manufacturing Excellence

Though its workshop is small by international standards, Rose & Heather uses the latest sophisticated technology. This is complemented by skilled craftspeople who finish each product by hand to give our furniture the kind of workmanship that sets it apart.

Every component in a limited edition run is made under the one workshop roof so that we can maintain the consistent standard that is Rose & Heather.

Rose & Heather is renowned for its innovative production techniques that stem from founder Tim Heather's passion for boats and his background as a naval officer. During this time, Tim accumulated knowledge that he was to apply later in his furniture making business.

The Trenail range derives its strength from a time-honoured boat construction method not normally associated with furniture making. In this range, structural elements provide the design features, producing well-balanced, classic furniture.

The term "Trenail" refers to a wedge driven into an exposed dowel to secure the timber instead of using nails. Trenails have been part of the boat builder's craft since the 16th century.

A fine dark jarrah beading not only provides a rich contrast to the deep honey-coloured kauri, but also forms the tenons that help assemble the components. Visible dowels and wedges add to the aesthetic appeal of the furniture.

It's a technique, says Tim, that enhances our dedication to fine craftsmanship and quality cabinet-making skills. While in Rose & Heather's latest range, Tumblehome, the dovetailing is an obvious decorative feature, the same traditional method of drawer construction is used in all the ranges to ensure superior quality. All drawers are hand-fitted into the cabinetry.

Finishing is of crucial importance and timbers are sealed for protection and hand-stained and finished so that clients never need to spend time oiling and waxing their furniture.

Quality construction and hand-finishing details means Rose & Heather furniture is built to last for future generations. Classic furniture stands the test of time, both in appearance and quality.
